What is Sleep Sex?

Do you know there are a host of parasomnia’s meaning involuntary behaviors that occur during sleep? Everyone’s heard of sleep walking but sexsomnia or “sleep sex” can be a bigger problem.  That’s right!  People can masturbate during sleep, talk dirty, or worse yet, break the law by forcing sex on to another person.

The Female Brain

If you are female and want to know more about how you tick, if you have a female child, or if you are in relationship with a female I HIGHLY recommend you read “The Female Brain” by Louann Brizendine, M.D.

Dr. Brizendine simply and clearly lays out the differences between the male and female brains and makes it easy to understand.  She finally lays to rest the argument about nature vs. nuture and gives scientific evidence for why women are the way they are - versus just being from “Venus.”

Was David Carradine a Sex Addict?

It’s difficult to answer that question with certainty but given the information in the article posted below, it doesn’t look good for the fallen Kung-Fu actor.

Not everyone who dies of a sexually-related death is a sex addict.  But according to his ex-wives (he had five), he engaged in potentially leathel sexual behaviors when seemed to escalate over time.  Developing a tolerance is one of the ear-marks of sex addiction.

Did he ultimately kill himself due to his preference for tying himself up?  It sure looks that way.  Although one of his ex-wives states that he used to tie himself up, the reports of the condition he was in when found dead indicate that there was another party present.

I’m no Sherlock Holmes but my speculation is that the sex-play went awry with one or both parties pushing the envelope too far.  When it was clear that Mr. Carradine was dead, his sexual partner fled the scene.

The Porn Industry Kills…

Whether or not pornography is good for a culture or not is a complicated topic. On the one hand the right to print and view porn is a free speech issue, and on the other hand it can be a human rights issue.  Many young men and women die every year due to overdose, suicide, homicide, and accidents due to the torment they are going through working in porn films.

Although I don’t have an answer about what is “right” and what is “wrong” where the availability of porn is concerned, former porn actress, Shelley Luben does.  She has created a crusade to help people get out of the porn industry.  Her site does anything but glamorize an industry that chews people up and spits them out.

Watching porn is not a victimless crime.

Eleven porn porn stars died from HIV, suicide, homicide and drugs in 2007.
Between 2003 and 2005, 976 performers were reported with 1,153 positive STD results.
66% of porn performers have Herpes, a non-curable disease.

Sexual dysfunction in men

Too many men assume they are in serious trouble when they loose their erections during sex play or intercourse or when they ejaculate too rapidly.  This is a very common problem and nothing to be alarmed or ashamed about.

The first reaction is to assume medicine is the answer because we are trained to look for quick fixes in our culture.  If this is a problem for you, and assuming there is no medical condition causing the problem, consider that your problems are most likely anxiety driven.

That’s right, anxiety!  When you are not present during sex you’re body will let you know.  Worrying that you won’t be able to keep your erection, thinking about other things, not connecting with your partner, and/or being absent from the sensations in your body can all lead to erectile dysfunction.

If you would like to read more about this problem, take a look at "Resurrecting Sex" by David Schnarch, Ph.d.  http://www.amazon.com/Resurrecting-Sex_problems_revolutionizing-Relationship/dp/0060931787/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=URF8&S=books&qid=1203789368&sr=1-1

Sexual Surrogacy

If you struggle with sexual dysfunction or have aversive reactions to sex and have wondered if there are people out there who can help, you may want to consider working with a sexual surrogate.

According to Tara Livingston, sexual surrogate and sex educator, "By definition a sexual surrogate, or surrogate partner, is a professional who helps clients overcome sexual dysfunction. Most surrogates are women, a few are men and there are also married couples that practice surrogacy together. The general term of sexual surrogacy can involve varying levels of practice. Some surrogates work at counseling centers while others have their own office. Some surrogates offer additional services besides surrogacy such as telephone counseling or sexological bodywork."

Female Sexual Dysfunction Alert

"The pharmaceutical industry wants women to think that sexual problems are simple and offers drugs as magic fixes. But positive sexual experiences require accurate, unbiased information.

FSD-Alert.org introduces an educational campaign that challenges the myths promoted by the pharmaceutical industry and calls for research on the many causes of women’s sexual problems."

Women and sexual pain

Did you know that many women suffer from painful intercourse, low sexual desire and other sexual dysfunctions?

A survey reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1999 suggested that more than 40% of women suffer from female sexual dysfunction. More than a fifth (22%) of those in the survey complained of low sexual desire, 14% experienced problems with sexual arousal (lack of vaginal lubrication) and 7% had pain during intercourse.
