This is another example of the split we see in sex addicts all the time.  Mr. Duvall is a Republican, pro-family advocate who has clearly lead a double life.  I’m not saying that he’s definately a sex addict but his behaviors certainly make him suspect.

12-Step wisdom cautions that relapse can only occur when opportunity and desire meet. That wisdom therefore suggests “Stay away from People, Places and Things,” to minimize your opportunities. Now, a scientific study shows that doing so not only minimizes the opportunity to relapse, but your desire as well. There is a long list of other program tools for minimizing the desire to relapse. Of course, minimizing and replacing both the desire and the opportunity as much as you can is still a big part of what recovery is all about!

The other program wisdom upheld by this study is the need for surrender. The phrase from the AA Big Book, “No amount of human willpower could have relieved our alcoholism” comes to mind. And another goes, “So far as alcohol was concerned, confidence was overrated…..”

Buying a book on-line is a basic transaction in my world so I was taken aback that this simple activity was a hardship for him.  So I decided to buy the books for ”Michael” and mail them to him in Pakistan.  After a debacle with a bookseller on Amazon and a number of communiques with ”Michael” as we waited for the books to arrive at my office, I finally sent the books via US mail.  I have to say I was not that confident that he would get them because his address was so convoluted.  It read something like this: the name of his employer, across from the butcher shop, next to the bank, Pakistan and a postal code of sorts (I’m not kidding!)

Ten days later, ”Michael” received the books and sent me a thank you note.  He was incredibly grateful and began reading them.  After a few months, I received an email from him letting me know his progress.  I think you might be as moved as I was when you read his note.  It reminded me how little it takes to help someone restore their sexuality.  For those of you who have more access and resources than ”Michael” did, I hope this inspires you to reach out and get help.  

Once I was very worried about my P E. I was unable to know why it occurs.
I used to ejaculate within a minute . Luckily I got two useful books recommended me by honourable Miss Alexandra Katehakis. The name of one book is : Coping with Premature Ejaculation written by Michael E Metz and Barry W Mc Carthy. The book has a biopsychosocial approach which has not only helped me substantially to control rapid ejaculation, but also increased my sexual joy. For the first time, I understood the multi causal and multidimensional problem of Premature Ejaculation and to enjoy sex with enhanced ejaculatory control. The book presents different diagnostic methods and tools to scientifically evaluate and assess P.E. I came to know exactly in what type of P E, I was suffering from. I also found the psycho sexual exercises very useful.
The other book that was recommended me was : Anxiety and Phobia Workbook written by Edmund J Bourne. For most people, P E is caused by anxiety. The book has a holistic approach to overcoming anxiety, phobia, depression etc.  When I learned how to manage my anxiety, I gained good control of my P E.
In short I found these two books very beneficial and I recommend these books to all those guys who are worried about their premature ejaculation. I am still on the path of progress.

Not everyone who dies of a sexually-related death is a sex addict.  But according to his ex-wives (he had five), he engaged in potentially leathel sexual behaviors when seemed to escalate over time.  Developing a tolerance is one of the ear-marks of sex addiction.

Did he ultimately kill himself due to his preference for tying himself up?  It sure looks that way.  Although one of his ex-wives states that he used to tie himself up, the reports of the condition he was in when found dead indicate that there was another party present.

I’m no Sherlock Holmes but my speculation is that the sex-play went awry with one or both parties pushing the envelope too far.  When it was clear that Mr. Carradine was dead, his sexual partner fled the scene.

Although I don’t have an answer about what is “right” and what is “wrong” where the availability of porn is concerned, former porn actress, Shelley Luben does.  She has created a crusade to help people get out of the porn industry.  Her site does anything but glamorize an industry that chews people up and spits them out.

Between 2003 and 2005, 976 performers were reported with 1,153 positive STD results.

However, it is important to realize that there is a key difference between promiscuity and sexual addiction. Your roommate may be happy regaling you with stories about the casual sex she had last night, but for sex addicts the sex is not happy sex. Like any addiction the behaviour is merely the process to get to the big payoff at the end, which for sex addicts is the usually the release of chemicals in the brain that one experiences during climax.

Recently, the Tyra Banks show created an anonymous survey for teenagers asking about sexual behaviors.  More then 10,000 teens and young women took the test.  You may be shocked to learn that the average girl looses her virginity at 15, often at school.  She also reports having unprotected sex, STD's, using drugs, and engaging in physical violence.

The Department of Justice has reduced prostitution, and therefore exploitation of women, to a mere scandal.  Despite the fact that prostitution violates and harms women both emotionally and physically, Mr. Spitzer is being slapped on the hand.  Mr. Spitzer is quoted as saying that he feels like he’s paid for his “sin” implying it’s time to move on, and Alan Dershowitz is quoted as saying that it was “no big deal.”

Based on the depth and breadth of Mr. Spitzer’s actions and sexual behaviors, the loss of his position as Governor of New York state, and the wreckage he undoubtedly caused his family, my guess is that Mr. Spitzer is most likely a sex addict.  Because he simply “sinned,” he will sadly, never make it to treatment to face his problems.  This ruling by the DOJ sends a message to women thoughout the country that the “good ‘ole boys” club is alive and well.

As a woman, I am personally offended and incensed by this ruling.  As a citizenn, I find it irresponsible at best and unconscionable at worst.  It makes me wonder who paid whom and how deep does the prostitution ring in New York state go?

The cantania’s solicit women from El Salvador promising them factory or  restaurant jobs in the U.S. where they can make better money to support their families at home.  Sad to leave their families and children behind, but filled with hope for a better life, these women end up as sex slaves fighting for their lives.

In San Francisco, women are brought to the U.S. from Thailand with similar promises.  If you have ever gone to a massage parlor for a “sensual massage” then you most likely have been participating in the human sex trafficking trade.

Many sex addicts who frequent strip clubs or massage parlors tell themselves that they’re not hurting anyone, that prostitutes are making a living, or that hiring a prostitute is a victimless crime.

This article appeared in USA Today on July 1, 2008.  The article poses the question of what constitutes an affair.  Some say that it’s no longer just about sex but that getting emotional needs met by someone outside of a marriage qualifies.

With couples suffering from the pressures of both parties working and trying to make ends meet, marriages often get marginalized.  This can have people turning to co-workers and/or to cyber-affairs to get their needs met.  Others will turn to pornography as a form of release that, over time, can lead to cybersex addiction.

The excitement most people feel when they meet a person they are romantically interested in is a normal part of the bonding experience. However, a love addict pushes this excitement to euphoric levels by engaging is compulsive fantasy, imagining ideal love, feeling instant closeness and a complete connection. This euphoria is the “drug of choice” for the love addict. This is their high; which is commonly accompanied by poor decision making because love addicts believe relationships to be closer and more meaningful, particularly in their beginning stages, than they actually are. As a result, love addicts may commit to a relationship much sooner and more intensely than that relationship can in reality tolerate. This leads to engaging in behaviors that are too early and inappropriate for the relationship, such as having sex, moving in together, committing to partnership or marriage, and commingling money, to name a few. These developments frequently lead to problems in the relationship, which the love addict has difficulty attributing as a result of their own poor boundaries and decisions. The problem is either externalized and blamed on the shortcomings of their partner (i.e. “it’s his/her fault, not mine”) or all the blame is assumed as it is internalized and attributed to their own worthiness (i.e., “if I were a better lover, then this wouldn’t have happened,” etc.). Either way, the actual problem is never addressed and the cycle is eventually repeated.

But think again.  According to a study at Penn State by Eric Corty, an associate of clinical psychology,  who gave "a random sample survey to 50 members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, an international social group of experts in sexual research," optimal sex lasts 7 - 13 minutes!

"The survey asked four questions about the length of sexual intercourse. It concluded that too short of a time is less than two minutes and an adequate time would be three to seven minutes. Too long is anywhere from 10-30 minutes, and two-thirds claimed that seven to 13 minutes is most desirable."

In a USA Today article, "A survey of sex therapists concluded the optimal amount of time for sexual intercourse was 3 to 13 minutes. The findings, to be published in the May issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, strike at the notion that endurance is the key to a great sex life."

We are bombarded by stereotypes of what film makers and magazine editors think sex should look like.  On the other side of that is porn and all it’s ideas about sex.  All of these forces can be shaming and diminishing and leave people unable to trust what is true for them.

If you worry about what "normal" is when it comes to your sex life, you might want to know that, according to Marianne Brandon, a clinical psychologist and director of Wellminds Wellbodies in Annapolis, Md., "most people’s sex lives are not as exciting as other people think they are."

Each one of us needs to listen to our own bodies and pay close attention to what the health patterns were for our grandmothers and mothers.  Never forget that your intuition is your best compass when it comes to making decisions about life cycle changes. 

It’s also important to find a health care practitioner whose value system lines up with yours so you feel like someone is on your team versus setting yourself up in a "blind obediance" situation.  Find a medical doctor who is open to alternative practices and consult with both.  This way you can make an informed decision based upon what your needs are.

The first reaction is to assume medicine is the answer because we are trained to look for quick fixes in our culture.  If this is a problem for you, and assuming there is no medical condition causing the problem, consider that your problems are most likely anxiety driven.

That’s right, anxiety!  When you are not present during sex you’re body will let you know.  Worrying that you won’t be able to keep your erection, thinking about other things, not connecting with your partner, and/or being absent from the sensations in your body can all lead to erectile dysfunction.
