What is erotic intelligence? The word erotic means the “deliberate seeking of pleasure” and the word intelligence means the “skilled use of reason.” Therefore, erotic intelligence means the deliberate seeking of pleasure using skilled reasoning.
Sex addicts deliberately seek pleasure, yet do so without the skilled use of reason. I wrote Erotic Intelligence: Igniting Hot Healthy Sex While in Recovery from Sex Addiction as a guide to assist individuals in sexual recovery to skillfully move towards healthy, intimate, and erotic sex.

Hope & Freedom for Sexual Addicts and Their Partners
I just got home from Philadelphia where I presented two courses for the US Journal Conference on Behavioral Health & Addictive Disorders, The first talk was on my upcoming book, “Erotic Intelligence: Igniting Hot, Healthy Sex After Recovery From Sex Addiction,” and the other entitled “Early Childhood Attachment Patterns Effects on the Neuropsychobiology of Sex Addicts” mirrors a recent article I had published in the Journal of Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity.
While there, I had the pleasure of meeting Jane Velez-Mitchell who talked about her new book, “iwant? My Journey from Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler, Honest Life.”
If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend you do!!

Check out Ariel Levy’s new book Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture. According to a review by Erika Pluhar, Ph.D, MS "Ariel Levy presents a searing expose of the most recent American iteration of female sexuality. This is a culture that glorifies Paris Hilton and idealizes strippers and porn stars as the embodiment of what it means to be "sexy.
Levy introduces readers to the FCP culture through a discussion of the multi-million dollar video series Girls Gone Wild, which involves filming women who expose themselves for the camera. The problem, Levy contends, is that this celebration of "raunch" is supposed to to equate with female sexual liberation."
Erika Pluhar, Ph.D. is an adjunct professor at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. You can email her at epluha2@sph.emory.edu
