A new study shows that HIV positive people are as much as 36 percent less likely to transmit the virus to others after attending a 90-minute psychotherapy session. These sessions addressed stress, coping, and safer behaviors—with follow-up monitoring 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 months afterward. The investigators acknowledged that after 25 months, “the treatment effects were not maintained.”
Although the people in the study were not able to follow through on the recommendations they recieved while in therapy, they were able to stay safe while attending. Clearly this is not the answer, but may be a partial answer in assisting people stay sexually safe.
